All in a Day’s Work…

I had the opportunity to attend the Nashville SceneBest of Nashville” party this evening at the Country Music Hall of Fame. Since neither of the bossmen were able to attend, Diploma Boy and I went, hoping to meet some of the reporters who have been so fantastic in covering the issues important to us.

Well, when we got there, it was quite a zoo. There were hundreds of people there. I just knew there was no way we would find the anybody we knew.

Well, for some reason, I have always lived a charmed life when it comes to coincidentally running into the more, shall I say, distinguished folks in the little circles I run in…so I was pleased when we hadn’t been there 5 minutes and we ran into our beloved Knucklehead, Kleinheider and Sean Braisted! A little later in the evening, I was SO happy to see Mary Mancini and Fred O’Connell from Liberadio(!) as well as their delightful significant others.

We finally met Sarah Kelley, one of the Scene’s reporters. It was great to put a face with the name!

So we were getting ready to make our way upstairs where the Hall of Fame room is, when I see this familiar gentleman standing alone…I was like, “NO way!” But “Way!”…I walked right up and said, “Governor Bredesen?” He said, “Hello!” I said, “Are you alone?!?” The Governor: “Oh no, I have folks around me.” and he pointed out his security men at an unobtrusive, but secure distance.

We laughed, and then I introduced myself and where I worked, and then I introduced Diploma Boy. We spoke with him for a few minutes until another group of people came up to him.

So I walked over to one of the men in his security detail and asked if it might be okay to ask for a picture (I just so happened to have my camera in my purse). He said, “Absolutely.” I asked if he would mind taking it for us, and he graciously said he would.

So…here you go…

He was so charming. At first we put him in between us, but then he said, “Wait! Wait! We should put the beautiful lady in the middle!” Hee. The Governor called me beautiful. Hee.

Now, I always love to make people laugh, and I wasn’t going to pass up an opportunity to hopefully make an impression on the Governor of the Great State of Tennessee, so as we parted ways, I said, “Oh, by the way…I hope one of these days you’ll run for President!”

He laughed and said, “Well, I’m a little busy these days.”

Indeed!

  4. Good to see you too, Ginger-Oh-Snaps!

Doyle over at Grimey’s (Best Record Store) had a story about the Governor too. He was standing around, alone, minding his own business when Bredesen walked by. For some reason, and to no one inparticular, he said out loud, “Hey, it’s the Governor!” which made Bredesen whip around and introduce himself. They proceeded to have a nice chat. Friendly gent, our Gov. And quite the flatterer!
