RIP Eddy Arnold

Music lost one of the greats early this morning with the death of Eddy Arnold. He would’ve turned 90-years-old next week! I used to see him around town quite a bit…a very unassuming, nice gentleman who you’d never suspect was a multi-millionaire from all of the real estate investments he had. He was an honorable man.
My 2 favorite Eddy Arnold songs are “Make The World Go Away” and “The Cattle Call.”

As I posted at my Times-Gazette blog today, my father and sister had an encounter with Mr. Arnold a while back — maybe 8 or 10 years ago. My sister had been researching our family genealogy, and my father took her to a cemetery where some of our ancestors are buried. It happened to be on a corner of Eddy Arnold’s property, and he came out to check on the visitors. He was extremely gracious and hospitable, and was quite interested in what my sister was doing — he even gave her his personal mailing address and asked her to send him a copy of whatever she learned about our family members in the cemetery. He came across as a real gentleman.
