It’s only Noon?

…and look who I’ve gotten to spend my day with so far!!!!

Peter Frampton!!!!

George Jones!!!!

This morning they converged on the Musician’s Hall of Fame downtown to announce the 2008 inductees. I actually went over there to see if I might be able to chat a bit with Frampton about possibly doing something in the way of a fundraising gig for The Justice Project, but it ended up an absolutely wonderful reunion with some folks I used to work with in the music business, who I had not seen in years!!!

I was greeted at the door by Kay Smith, who is an absolute angel. She is a pillar in the industry who worked behind the scenes to make country music what it became in its glory days…the days of legend. She has worked with Joe Chambers to make the Musician’s Hall of Fame a fabulous place of honor for those who make the music.

The induction ceremony was very intimate, with a small gathering there, and I felt like Peter Frampton was truly honored to be announcing those names…at times, he would drop in personal reference as to how the inductee influenced him personally. It was very sweet.

Oh, I have already been asked why there isn’t a picture of me with those two guys up above. (You know, because I have a collection going and all…) Well, one thing you must learn is to feel out the vibe at these things. I could tell that Frampton was a bit nervous about doing his presentation, and he definitely wasn’t in the picture-taking mood, and far be it from me to disrespect one of my heroes…come on!!! I didn’t see Jones before hand. Afterwards, well, let’s just say that the news crews were less than courteous in hogging them both. I have a bone to pick with one female reporter who shall remain nameless (mainly because she’s left me with no impression of her talent…only her rudness…zing). However, as much as I have given Brad Schmitt a hard time (on other blogs) in the past, he was very courteous…a nice guy.

My heart was full as I left that place…so happy to see old friends and to see what they have put together there. I highly recommend it. I’m seriously considering hosting a fundraising event there…the venue is perfect!

  1. So how drunk was Ol’ Possum? After all, it is noon!

  2. That is an awesome space for a event, whether you use the front lobby area or the performance space farther in the back. I’ve been very impressed with them.

  3. Sounds totally cool! What a great day!

  4. For some reason I’m surprised to hear about Frampton being there. I remember “Frampton Comes Alive” and “Sgt. Pepper’s” but I don’t know that I’ve ever heard him do a version of “All My Rowdy Friends are Comin’ Over Tonight” or “Daydreams about Night Things.”

Has he been mixing it up with the country crowd?

  5. Actually, Delmer, Frampton lived in Nashville for quite awhile, and (ironically) now he lives in Cincinnati! But the Musicians Hall of Fame & Museum spans far more than the Country music genre…it’s more rock than anything, I believe. You might check out their website: http://www.musicianshalloffame.com

  6. Ginger,
What a great morning! I wanted to go but I didn’t want to go with no sleep. It would take a Beatle or medical procedure to get me up before noon.

Great photos, great times, and Peter sooo did belong there. He’s very nice. I don’t know him personally, but I used to run into him a lot at Kroger during the night and exchange polite chit chat, and he was always gracious and funny and nice.

    Glad you were there!
