I simply must give a shout-out to the amazing Darius Rucker — front man of Hootie & the Blowfish — who, on this day, has made American recording history by being only the third African American to have a #1 Country song (the first since 1985) along with Ray Charles and Charlie Pride.
I absolutely love his performance on the song, too…what a deep, rich, velvety voice! The song is called “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It”…check it out…

OOOPS!!! ha haaa! … That name was from my last comment
Of course, I am a “Cat”
I’ve been loving this song, too. Glad he’s doing well.
I started listening to this album a bit last week. Haven’t bought it yet, but I like what I’ve heard. Rucker does country well. But, then again, Hootie’s sound was never all that far removed from a sort of country twang, so it should be no surprise.
[...] music and I wanted to ventit with you. And then this morning in my Google Reader I see that Ginger’s pretty psyched about the Darius Rucker thing. So now, of course, I feel bad because I’m pretty psyched about the Ginger thing! Ginger [...]
I didn’t realize who he was, but I LOVE this song. It’s one of my favs.

I have never heard this track before or knew that Darius was doing country. I am not one that usually follows country music. Actually, I wasn’t a fan of Hootie until AFTER everyone else had bored of them but I really really like this song. Hopefully the hits will keep rolling for him. I may have to check the whole record out.
Hi Ginger,
I enjoyed your post about Darius Rucker. Thanks for making it known that there are black artists in country music and that Darius Rucker is not the first to have a no. 1 hit. I am a black woman who is an aspiring country music songwriter and I hope one day one of my songs will be on the charts. I recently started a blog called Black and Country on wordpress.com. Please check it out.
Thanks again,
Lacey
