‘Cause when you close your heart, then you close your mind.
This song and video still inspire me after 20 years…it doesn’t get much better than “Man In The Mirror”…
I’m Gonna Make A Change,
For Once In My Life
It’s Gonna Feel Real Good,
Gonna Make A Difference
Gonna Make It RightAs I Turn Up The Collar On
My Favorite Winter Coat
This Wind Is Blowin’ My Mind
I See The Kids In The Street,
With Not Enough To Eat
Who Am I, To Be Blind
Pretending Not To See Their Needs?A Summer’s Disregard,
A Broken Bottle Top,
And One Man’s Soul.
They Follow Each Other On
The Wind Ya’ Know
‘Cause They Got Nowhere To Go
That’s Why I Want You To KnowI’m Starting With The Man In The Mirror
I’m Asking Him To Change His Ways.
And No Message Could Have Been Any Clearer:
If You Wanna Make The World A Better Place
Take A Look At Yourself
And Then Make A ChangeI’ve Been A Victim Of A Selfish Kind Of Love
It’s Time That I Realize
That There Are Some With No Home,
Not A Nickel To Loan
Could It Be Really Me,
Pretending That They’re Not Alone?A Willow Deeply Scarred,
Somebody’s Broken Heart
And A Washed-Out Dream
They Follow The Pattern Of
The Wind, Ya’ See
‘Cause They Got No Place To Be
That’s Why I’m Starting With MeI’m Starting With The Man In The Mirror
I’m Asking Him To Change His Ways.
And No Message Could Have Been Any Clearer:
If You Wanna Make The World A Better Place
Take A Look At Yourself
And Then Make A ChangeYou Gotta Get It Right, While You Got The Time
‘Cause When You Close Your Heart
Then You Close Your MindMake That Change.

This is a truly inspiring song.
Like my friend Idava said, inspiring.
A bit of trivia. Glen Ballard who co-wrote this, co-wrote and produced all those angry songs on Jagged Little Pill for Alanis! He’s very diverse.
BTW, Ginger, do you know Idava? I gave her your email and Ivy’s and Kathy T when the campaign was going on. She lives where you do, and has two girls and very active in dem politics. The grrls out there should get together. It’s such a small world, either your child or Ivy’s or Kathy’s probably go to school with her daughters.
Whoa-went way off topic, but thought I’d bring that to your attention.
Great song! So true and inspiring.
I’ve always liked this song. I love many of MJ’s songs. I’m just so bummed that I don’t think very much of MJ himself anymore =(
And Nancy already said what I was thinking.
Totally agreeing with Nancy and Faiqa. Love the song, love most of MJ’s stuff but he just creeps me out now!
idava – Welcome! Yes, I have always loved this song, especially the choir ending!
Sharon – Hey yeah, I saw Glen Ballard’s name and was surprised because I knew him as the man behind Alanis’ “Jagged Little Pill”! What a talent to have such a range of emotion in his writing, huh???
Nancy, Faiqa, & LJ: Yeah, I’m right there with you…but this song and, more importantly, the video (that doesn’t show MJJ at all), surpasses beyond the artist singing it, in my humble opinion.
Why Yes! I’m a Tennessee Girl! Nice to meet you!!
